The four of you settle into the egg-like seats of the meeting room, and Wind begins explaining his former training routine.
"Back when he was just a Gammamon, we spent a few months fighting whatever we could in the sewers. I stuck to a sort of weekly goal. Four days of battling, three days of rest."
"This method of indiscriminate battling was consistent and functional, but we eventually learnt of a more directed approach."
"Directed?"
"Yeah. You've scanned Kaus Gammamon before, right?"
You nod and slide your goggles onto your face, just to see what kind of point he's making.
KAUS GAMMAMON- CHAMPION- DRAGON MAN- DATA
"As Gammamon, his type was 'Ceratopsian'. I didn't know what that meant, but we came up with a theory that his Digivolutions would be some kind of reptilian form. Or draconic. So we started skipping enemies in the sewers who didn't fit into those parameters."
"We were also worried that indiscriminately taking in data would result in an unpredictable Champion form."
"So, if Porcupamon is a Puppet-type, what kind of Digimon are we supposed to fight?"
The two of them don't seem to be able to answer that.
"I guess your Digivolution path has already become unpredictable, huh?"
"Yeah. If I turned into another Dark Beast, it would have been easy enough to guess what an Ultimate stage would be like. Could beat up mammal-types like Gazimon or Tsukaimon for their data. But Puppet? I don't know what's next. Do I even want to stick to that? I don't know what the strongest option is."
"This is a path that differs for every Digimon. While we are able to provide guidance, we cannot help to chart your path of growth."
"We haven't actually fought that many different Digimon, have we? So it's not like their data could have influenced you that much. Not if Kaus Gammamon fought a whole bunch of Digimon while maintaining a stable form."
"Let's see... We beat BlackAgumon, Espimon, and then a whole bunch of bots in the sewers. Oh, I did have to finish off a few Espimon and Commandramon while we were in the data center."
"So was it Espimon that gave you a Puppet-type Digivolution?"
"Doubt so, Espimon is a Cyborg." Wind replies.
You think about the moments that came right before his Digivolution, while you were both filled with fighting spirit. Back then, you wished for the ability to keep you both safe. Maybe that had something to do with it? But you don't say pitch that idea out loud. It doesn't check out with the rest of the science behind Digivolution.
"Eh, whatever. No point doing an audit if we can't use the results. Let's just fight whatever strong enemies show up."
It's not like you have any other options, so you shrug and set your elbows on the table.
