I have experience printing my own decals, but never bought SaberScorpion's. I have bought from BrickStickerShop and they're good. I advise you get A4 sticker paper (you can get a pack of 20 sheets off eBay for reasonably cheap) if you want to do your own. To avoid smudging, you may need clear spray paint to seal the ink after it dries.

No, the only advantage is the transparency and thinness (useful for faces). The paper is more expensive than sticker paper too. They come off pretty easily if you just nudge them with your finger. Ideally you're supposed to 'bake' the decal onto your mug or bowl or whatever in the oven which bonds it to the surface. Obviously you can't do this with Lego but you can use a hair dryer, though I'm not sure if that actually helps.
