Lovely Dark and Deep by Elisa A. Bonnin is a delightful read. It's got eldritch horrors, colonialism, magical school, immigrant trauma, autism & lesbians. All these elements blend together really well to create a compelling narrative of a girl finding her place in the world. The characters are likable, the horror elements are scary, the prose vivid and the romance nonexistent. The only complaint I have is that we don't get enough of the mc and her love interest to really understand why the mc likes her so much. It's a bit too bare bones for my tastes. 8:10
