The solution is sea urchin-shaped vehicles. Basically everything has a bunch of long spines in it's upper hemisphere ranging to two or three times the size of the vehicle, and these spines also have spines.
The problem is that eveyrthing would become signifcantly slower due to air resitance and also not able to drive in urban areas but it seems worth the trouble.
Soldiers with sea urchin-shaped helmets could be the asnwer for individual protection.
