It surely is for variety. For more arcade feel I would not say. Bloons is a juggernaut in this and Kingdom Rush does have it's charm.
Then there is gemcraft, but I don't really like it's systems or at least chasing shadows one, but the gem combining is addictive.
I don't think cursed treasure has modern applicability and things like desktop defenders are not in the running.
Plants vs zombies I don't think is as good as it is given credit to.
Creeperworld gets tired fast and defender series is charming, but not in the running again.
There was this one named onslaught that was my sisters favorite so it does get many nostalgia points, but giving it more than mention here probably is enough for it.
Orcs must dies and Sanctum are the 3d ones and I don't think they have what it takes.
