It's the actual convergence (no pun intended) of the Souls genre.
It's where Fromsoftware finally decides the fundamental identity of the series and its any aspects
>larger dungeons around bonfires, with a stronger focus on the cinematic appeal of the setting than seen before. Almost any area starts with big views like Anor Londo and Dragon Shrine
>builds centered around stats that have multiple brackets of investment and that give access to multiple damage types
>stronger focus on asymmetric invasions and making 1vs1 much rarer
>an enemy design that is generally more mobile and reliant on area of effect, usually to enact some lingering hitbox
>a mix of Bloodborne systems based on hyperarmor and universal poise damage for enemies
I wouldn't be surprised if Fromsoftware keeps expanding vertically like Elden Ring but I doubt the genre would see such a massive shift in game design from Dark Souls 3
