I don't see it that way at all. "Expressiveness" is not the same as "exaggeration". Also, subtler expressions can be equally as expressive as overt or exaggerated ones. Why? Because they express something unique and that's the key thing. I'm saying it's apples to oranges. Being slightly pissed off the not the same as being furious for example. They convey a different thing, "expression" is not the same as "emotion" either so don't conflate them. Both pictures in pic related has similar degrees of expressiveness but don't quite coney the same emotion. Being teary eyes isn't the same as full on bawling.
