The Roman Empire is overrated

1. Mighty military?

Roman soldiers didn't win because they were inherently superior, but often because their enemies were disorganized or divided. Plus, Rome relied more on sheer numbers and infantry mass than mobility or tactics, and many strategic innovations were actually learned from neighboring tribes. The idea that Roman military was exceptional is mostly a glorified myth made by later generations

Even They couldn't recruit enough legionaries from their own citizens, so they ended up enlisting "barbarians" from the frontiers and those very people later brought down the Roman Empire

2. Refined culture?

Average Romans were illiterate, entertained by blood sports
Poetry and philosophy? Just Greek knock offs for aristocrats
Roman aesthetics were half stolen, half steroid pumped versions of Greek art.

3. Wealthy economy?

Couldn't function without slaves. Real economic engine was slave labor, not innovation
Why invest in tech if you can just buy more slaves? When conquest slowed, so did the slave supply, and the economy crashed

4. Civilizers?

Actually conquerors and destroyers
for stealing land, destroying cultures, and selling people into slavery
Also The idea that Rome civilized barbarians reflects a colonial mindset

5. In short
Romantic fantasy made by later Europeans
Renaissance scholars idealized Rome to look more glorious themselves
The real Roman Empire, by today's standards, was a war addicted state and a half-baked civilization that couldn't survive without slavery

Funny how Christians preach love thy neighbor, but their holy book is full of rules where you stone people to death for tiny mistakes. And the big finale? An eternal torture pit for anyone who doesn't swear loyalty to their invisible king. That's not divine love, that's straight up spiritual blackmail

I get loving the idea of Jesus. But most Christians focus on the good parts isn't that kind of selective?

Like, if unconditional love is the core, why does the doctrine still hinge on belief as a condition for salvation? That's not unconditional.

>"love me or burn"

It's not love, it's a threat disguised as love.

That's why I don't like Christianity, that's not choice that's a rigged game where the dealer builds the table, deals the cards, and then punishes you for playing.

I used to hate landlords too, until I actually had to manage one small property my parents left me. Most people here don't realize how much work and stress it actually involves. It's not just free money, you have to deal with broken appliances, tenant complaints, legal compliance, taxes, etc.

It's always people who’ve never touched responsibility in their lives who scream the loudest about "parasites."
