Not really. I felt optimistic for the future by the end of the 90s. Things starting going down shaky and uncertain by the mid-00s. There were aspects that felt depressing like music and movies but it felt more like outlets for people individually having issues and angst and some people were cynical. Perhaps it was a warning about the cracks in the system and inevitable issues that were coming but I'd digress. Generally however, everything felt a bit more optimistic.
