Beer = Lagers/Pilsners and Ales. It's two different kinds of yeast and the temperatures they are brewed at for the yeast to ferment properly, "bottom brewing" for lagers and "top brewing" for ales.

Ales are the original beer. Lagers are very recent only having been created around 1000 years ago at most.
