I feel the biggest issue here isn't that they're using traditional names for items but- as you pointed out- not training the staff on what the items are and how they're pronounced. I ordered a gnocchi from a fancy Italian place once and the waitress asked me to repeat myself about three times until I just pointed at it, and she said
