That realization really stung. I was pretty young though and it was decades ago.
Historians readily admit that they just make shit up to fill in the gaps in the archeological/anthropological/written data. I will repeat that, THEY MAKE SHIT UP. They guess. And some of it is legitimate historical fiction.
Now add to this the pay pigs. Who pays the salaries, who publishes the books, who controls narrative, and pays for certain results, will refuse to publish some things while happily publishing other stuff. Who peer reviews this that and the other. The entire apparatus is highly corruptible, like anything else I suppose.
