Ukrainian Drones Hit Key Russian Airbase Again, Taking Out Power Substation
Ukrainian long-range attack drones have once again successfully struck the Kushchevskaya military airfield in Russia’s southern Krasnodar Krai, this time damaging critical ground infrastructure. The attack, which occurred around midnight between June 24 and 25, represents the latest in a series of Ukrainian strikes targeting the strategic airbase.
According to the independent Russian news outlet ASTRA, which cited sources within Russia's Ministry of Emergency Situations, at least one drone penetrated air defenses and struck an electrical substation on the base. The strike reportedly caused damage to the facility, likely impacting airfield operations. No casualties were reported.
Kushchevskaya is a vital airbase for the Russian Aerospace Forces, hosting frontline fighter-bombers such as the Su-34 and Su-27, which have been heavily involved in launching strikes against Ukraine. Its location in Krasnodar Krai makes it a key logistical and operational hub supporting the war effort.
This is at least the third successful Ukrainian attack on Kushchevskaya in recent months. A major strike in late April reportedly damaged multiple aircraft and a warehouse storing UMPK guided-bomb kits. Another attack in May was reported to have damaged at least one Su-27 fighter and other infrastructure on the base.
