Ultimately Maekawa's gone and nobody's asked him about it, but Maekawa firmly stating he thinks Amy and Maria are separate souls lends credence to my theory that Maria being Amy-like is a case of flanderization. Maekawa had a more demure, subdued, reserved vision of Maria than the Maria we have now.
