A bit back and to the left of the first picture is a marker on the ground, a plaque is behind it. To read the plaque you have to pretty much step on the marker....then you learn the marker is the burial area for a dog that everyone loved while they were making the dam, it died getting run over as it slept underneath a vehicle.
The Pat Tilman bridge is a decent walk and nice to get a view of the bridge, helps cut traffic between those just traveling / trucks and those going to the dam as it used to back up after 9/11 for checks all the time.
The extended tour is neat, if they offer it. The part in Vegas Vacation where he ends up on the outside really just goes to a bathroom. They used to take you to a shaft where you could stick a phone / camera out and get a neat selfie, no clue if they still do that, while walking along that air shaft, you will come across a grate covering stairs and a 200 foot drop.
There used to be a video on youtube / liveleak of a jumper at the damn with a camcorder, you can see body parts come off as he slams into the bottom.
As for Vegas despite what everyone thinks food places close relatively early (ie midnight or before) so you are stuck with the cafes or Del Taco (now there is a Taco bell) on the strip as I was after hiking all day.
I recall a hazy memory of at some point tipping $20 for 2 tiny water bottles as I was so parched while gambling after hiking too.
I would play the machines / gamble as a bit of "giving back" and whatever I put in I expected to lose. When they still had Star Wars machines I was pissed one night as I couldn't lose money and I just wanted it gone so I could go to sleep. That and just wanting the gonk to appear for a match bonus instead of R2D2 (gonk was the lowest win, R2D2 highest...but come on GONK)
