If today's meeting of Steve Witkoff and Putin in the Kremlin hasn't led to the desired outcome - Putin's readiness for at least a ceasefire and then peace - then future peace will depend on USA-China negotiations.
According to various sources, Putin is being told that the Russian army is greatly succeeding on the frontlines and that the Ukrainian Defense Forces will only be able to fight for several more months (which is not the reality on the ground).
Putin is also hoping that the Russian economy is in a better state than it actually is.
And it is obvious that Putin's personal power is grounded on the war that continues, and he doesn't give a damn about Russia's far-off future state.
Putin has resisted conducting a mass draft for a long time. But if he decides to continue the war, he will be forced to announce it.
Continuing the war will also lead to increased sanctions against Russia, decrease in its oil revenues and downfall of the Russian economy that will lead to Russia's full dependence from China.
Obviously, we don't know a lot that's going on behind the scenes all over the world. Ukrainians have so much hope. We want a just and lasting peace.
We must keep calm and continue our work - help Ukrainian Defense Forces and make Ukrainian military production industry stronger.
