We're also kind of forgetting that since a lot of the Russians are coming from cities, rural villages and the Mayak Sludge Pits most of them are going to have no idea that birds like these even exist, let alone what they look like. Because of this, it might just be a genuine accident and they honestly thought they got a double kill on a pair of recon drones.
We've got to remember that with Russians, the most stupidest answer is more likely than not to be the correct one.
