I am that anon, and personally I can't speak as to why the ships are so beloved or anything like that, but I do get the appeal of the incest pairings. It even makes a certain sense, after all the show was initially a reference to Back to the Future, which has two movies that briefly flirt with the idea of a fling between a son and the past version of his mom. But I've seen people talking about some truly out there pairings for the show, ones that you wouldn't really expect.
