“blehh…” Samantha is still retching, on her hands and knees, her lunch long lost as another stain on the brick wall. Clover just sits on the concrete steps, staring off blankly at the clouds in the sky.
Death wasn’t something wholly new for the wolf-girl. She was there at mom’s funeral, there holding the flowers when her casket was lowered into the ground. She remembered crying a lot the day before, and crying a lot for months after, but on the day of, she’d been oddly numb. The entire ceremony felt like it had been a dream. She’d simply been pulled through the motions, holding onto her brother’s hand the entire time.
Clover felt that same numbness now. The only difference was that Henry wasn’t there to keep her tethered to reality.

Every time Lorene blinks, she sees those glassy eyes. The image of that thing with straw-colored hair is burned into her mind.
Lorene knows that it used to be human. She knows that it was once a girl like them, with thoughts and emotions and dreams. Even knowing that, she can’t help but shudder with disgust. It was unfair for the girl, it really was, but that was simply the truth. The fact that a person could be defiled to such a state only made the world that much darker.

The three girls glance at each other briefly, before looking away. Even without words, they felt closer to one another in a way that only they could understand. From now on, that experience would be a curse they shared.
“I…” The two girls look at Samantha. “I’m going to call the cops. That girl… she deserves to rest now.” The girl shakily pulls out her phone.
>…Let her? Is there anything else?
