The Japanese Tamagotchi community is far bigger than the Western one for sure. There's been a big resurgence after the Uni's release due to many collabs with other Japanese brands and merchandising that helps keep it trendy. As Bandai puts it, they're going through their "third boom" (the first being the fad during the original's release, and the second being the Plus/Connection era with it peaking with the Keitama/v3), and they're fully capitalizing on it this time around.
It also helps that Tamagotchi's being boosted through Japanese streamers. Dokomusu Channel in particular has done a lot of work in bringing new fans to the series with his Omisecchi streams alongside Marutchi being a recurring gag even outside of Tamagotchi streams and a resident in his Tomodachi Collection island, and his work on keeping a strong relationship with the Tamagotchi franchise paid off since Bandai ended up interviewing him for the official Omisecchi fanbook.
The current fanbase also shapes the image of the franchise right now, and what they've been doing with it. Vintage-style design philosophy returns for Paradise, since old-school fans are getting back into the series, and Plus era characters have been making a comeback, both due to the Keitama nostalgia and because Omisecchi as a series was most known during that time period.
As for fan communities, from what I've seen, most Tamagotchi fans tend to just post on Twitter than on any dedicated fansite or server. Most average Japanese people tend to like Twitter the most. Also, despite the JP fanbase being leagues bigger than the Western fanbase, I wouldn't discount the importance of Westerners either, since Connection nostalgia and vocal outcry for the remakes is why we even got the Connection 2024 remake to begin with, and why it's specifically based on the Western v3 rather than the JP Keitama. This also means it's the first time JP fans get to experience a Western-style Connection with its huge roster and game lineup.
