FF has routinely followed a formula of sprikling "hyper advanced sci fi futuristic precursor civilisation" over a mostly medieval fantasy setting. FFXV is the only game you can argue the point on. By and large, 99% of Final Fantasy games are set in and primarily focused on airship-punk fantasy magic sword and board type worlds. Modern FFXIV is indistinguishable from fucking Cyberpunk 2077.
