I think I know why.
I used to be such a raging hipster who didn't want to like things that were too popular, and among the weeb culture in 2009 catgirls and foxgirls were all the rage, so of course I wanted to find something a little more unconventional. Lo and behold, 2009 was the Year of the Ox, and Japanese artists started doing art matching the zodiac of the year.
