Japanese games are undeniably marked by Japanese culture, as well. While that appeals to weebs, and is fine, that has long been a reason that wider audiences don't embrace them. To the average Westerner, Clair appears more coherent and closer to their own experience, which makes it much easier to engage with. You could criticize this, I suppose, but it's normal behavior.
