That's a good question though. The thought process of Cyrene right after that was that Lygus HAD to do that to ensure that Phainon is gazed by the destruction, implying that Era Nova alone wouldn't guarantee Nanook's gaze.
But that also doesn't make sense since Era Nova is literally described as the process of feeding the samples of conflict and learning to solve the Destruction Equation, the process which would increase Irontomb's completion. So there's not really a point for Lygus to interfere.
It's also equally weird that he needs Nanook's gaze at all, given that Nanook had already gazed at Amphoreus at the end of 50121st cycle, so why did he need another gaze? Did he want Phainon to become another Lord Ravager separately from Irontomb? or is there a difference between being gazed at once vs twice??
