It's a collection of a massive amount of mental illnesses and truama that lead them there, so it's easy to fall into the trap of feeling sorry for them, but you have to remember that alot these people are also making their own decisions constantly and end up ruining their own lives more and more via their behavior. At some point you can no longer pity them because their own influence on themselves outweighs the influence others have had on them. There are people who have gone through similar and worse things and have chosen to become better and grow beyond their trauma instead of letting it fester into a hotpot of psychological disorders
