It was one of the last fun places to shop.
It's the same thing with how malls used to be. Before everything was algorithmically chosen for you, you could walk into a rental store like Blockbuster or The Sharper Image or Media Play and find neat things you didn't know about!
Actually being able to shift through physical objects that weren't selected for you or in most cases these days shit you have already seen, was a fun way to discover New and exciting media, trinkets or whatever!
Streaming used to be fun for the same reason until they "improved" their algorithms. I used to be able to find all sorts of new and interesting films I never heard of on Netflix and YouTube, but now after they changed their algorithms, I'm constantly served shit I've already seen or the most boring slop they consider "popular".
The mall did the same shit before they started dying. You used to be able to look around shops and find neat gadgets and movies and stuff, but eventually they decided that those things weren't "profitable enough" and now you can only find cell phone accessories and clothing in the mall. I might be the outlier here but all phones are pretty much the same these days so shopping for a fucking phone is boring, and I really don't care that much about clothing, especially when it's just t-shirts with [brand] on it in most cases.
So that's why I'm nostalgic for Blockbuster...
Also fuck you OP, I'm sad now, Faggot.
