but there was an odd push to make people think nukes would be the end of the world
the soviets and west pushed bunk science saying nuclear winter would end all life on earth (and the soviet scientist responsible for the theory was disappeared mysteriously)
films that portrayed nukes as an unfathomable apocalyptic end were pushed in the 80s like dead man's letters, threads and the day after
while in reality nukes would kill millions but most would survive

my theory is nukes would mean the end of the status quo but not humanity
the elites knew this and made sure the idea of nuclear war was unacceptable
