Why did atheists become the punching bag of the Internet? I remember a while back, especially from 2007 to 2012, atheists were seen as these unbeatable, super intelligent and defiant group of people who nobody was able to outsmart or beat in a debate. It seemed like the Internet belonged to them and their movement was gaining traction, especially on Reddit and YouTube.
But today? They are the butt of every joke. They are looked at as pretentious, edgy, immature, fedora-tipping losers. The word atheist is even used as a pejorative these days. Even Richard Dawkins, the atheist icon, has come out and said he values Christianity's contributions to society and classifies himself as a "Cultural Christian."
