The VFX spam is necessary to cover up the fact that their models only move in broad strokes with few minor details.
You'll also notice how their weapons rarely ever touch the opponent, only the shiny effects.
I played this game for every day until 2.1, and I always struggled to understand why the characters felt floaty and why the attacks had little impact.
There's just no oomph when you're playing the game, feels like you're hitting everything with pillows.
