Basically, as far as I know it, both swedish and finnish midsummer are pagan celebrations, swedes inherited it from their ancestors the goths while finland was doing it's own thing even since stone age basically. For same reason the swedish midsommar is slightly more christian feeling as it was better integrated into christianity while finland is more viking/pagan, basically in finlands case they tried to completely ban the celebration during the christianing, failed, threw in the name of john the bapist (hence juhannus) and called it a good enough because they could be bothered any further and were all rowdy drunks

Finland was one of the last countries in europe to convert to christianity, way later than other countries. And even then it was done very "good enough", because nobody cared of the little land mass known as finland too much
