Hollows (otherwordly zones) appearing around the world have almost wiped out humanity, people and matter inside these areas are slowly corrupted into mindless monsters. About a decade ago the old capital was consumed as a gigantic hollow suddenly appeared. The protagonists were orphans living/studying in an academy and their teacher is officially blamed for the old capital incident.
Now they work as illegal proxies, experts that help people navigate hollows (they are constantly shifting mazes inside) to extract resources. They help various factions deal with hollows and a cult trying to create human-hollow hybrids with their main goal trying to find out what really happened when the old capital fell and is their teacher innocent or possibly even alive.
