Well, we know that Ashley is chronically depressed like Douglas, a lot of her behavior is more of a mask she puts on to cope with adversity, and partially because she knows Andrew appreciates her wild antics.
If you remove a stressor, she'd have less of a reason to wear that mask, and who Ashley is deep down would be more apparent.
We also know that kids around them make fun of them for no real reason, so I can easily see them mocking her artistic endeavors.
