That's what throws me off, she was the only one with a "normal life". Half of the first movie is about how her got her life together, became a powerful woman, a popular politician with quite the future ahead and she loved that life. You can understand why the rest seem fine about starting a new life, they all were in an awful position.
It should definitely have a scene explaining her reasoning even when she didn't have much choice left.
