After learning about the hedonic treadmill I lost all motivation to invest in this life any longer, the fact that no matter what I do, how much money I make, all the hot supermodels I pick up and bang, it doesn’t matter.
Eventually I’d get bored of it, the pleasure would dissipate and I’d feel exactly the same within a few months.
What’s the point in doing anything knowing that nothing will satisfy and make you happy?

>have baseline level of happiness
>when you experience something pleasurable (social validation, sex, good food), you feel good, but then you adapt to it and the pleasure quickly goes away
>you keep chasing more, but it never lasts and you end up back at baseline

Once you see through this trap why would anyone get married? Why have children if it’s never going to satisfy or make you happy? It doesn’t make any sense at all.
Once you see this, it’s truly as Solomon said, chasing after wind, utter futility…
