Widespread misconception that cats are effective at controlling mice and rats. They just become sneakier and humans will not see them, thinking the cats took care of them.
Effective pest control would come from trained ratcatcher dogs, ferrets, weasels, owls or pretty much any other bird of prey. Impossible to reason with cat lovers, because that's the main symptom of toxoplasmosis that they become unreasonable.
