I have pretty much given up on mankind as whole and came to the conclusion that no one is coming to save us. The only thing we can be certain of is a global financial collapse and a world war which will collapse existing governments and ultimately collapse societies as well. People will no longer be able to rely on the government systems and resources to assist them so they will form cliques and ministates, and from these groups, new countries form and borders redrawn.
