The Anbar locals might as well have been space aliens...they were agrarian peasants in a 2nd or 3rd world country...nothing computed...very strange but pleasant in the beginning as they were nice at first.

But then groups of masked men starting visiting anyone at night and threatening them for even talking to us on the street, and family members of Police and Iraqi army soldiers we trained were murdered and tortured.

We also dealt with the Iraqis training with us and then going right back out and planting IEDs with the money and training we gave them.

No kills. Some of our guys got in full blown firefights, I was usually in a different part of the city though.

We lost guys to snipers and IEDs, and fending off a few organized attacks.

Their certainly is a powerful rush when you are stalking through the city and peoples home at night wearing Night Vision goggles....when I see government agents hunting people with SWAT teams in the US it amazes me...it's just a different color uniform...only cops will execute you for being ANY threat to them, however in Iraq we were extremely controlled....it was more like fighting blind with your hand tide behind your back.

In the US cops murder people over traffic stops.
