Most old game franchises do that type of storytelling with their longtime core cast. The story is about the core cast interacting with new settings and stories, not diving into their backstories that rather would be left to mystery. On top of that, Rosalina is practically one of the only Mario characters with detailed backstory, in MAINLINE (didn't even have to wait for a rpg or a character subseries like most), so this really spreads the meaning of wanting her to stay with her storybook personality and impact when included to things.
