My homeland Tatarstan is mortally ill, it was struck with metastases of ruscism, as you may know. But the name Boris is not Tatar at all. Back in sovok it was forbidden to give traditional names to kids, because they were kinda religious, and commies fought every religion. So Tatars started using European names like Albert, Alfred, Robert, Raphael, Edward, Ferdinand, e.t.c. maybe the name Boris was among them.
