While I get worshipping to get closer to the deity and have him in your heart, I look at deities similar to Yidams. It just comes down to consciousness and energy. I grew up in the Christian church, Christians actually bow to something and see it as completely external from themselves and many seem to lose their grip on life without it. It's strange.
