Sonic, Tails, and Amy really should be Team Sonic.

Knuckles makes no sense much of the time. He has a duty to Angel Island. He shows he is annoyed by Sonic a fair amount of the time. He does not seem to be into as much careless fun as Sonic, Tails, and Amy do.
