I finally played Silent Hill 4: The Room. And honestly? It’s bretty good and way better than I expected. I played Silent Hill 3 just a few weeks ago and kind of hated it. I mean, right away I saw Heather and thought, “Ah. A girl...? Rape and pregnancy.” And I was right. Claudia shows up five minutes in and says, “You will give birth to God,” and that’s it. The mystery is gone and once you already understand the symbolism, the horror dies. It’s like showing the monster in the first act of a movie. Every time Heather whined, I already knew where it was going. Cult, birth, janky as shit final boss. I was right the whole time, and that just made the game boring. I didn’t feel fear. I felt like I was just finishing a checklist. 3 kidna reminds me of Bloodborne. It's as if you have these enemies that are supposed to be terrifying or 'Lovecraftian', and you can accurately describe them in three words, is that not a problem?
>worm in a tunnel
oh, its rape.
>two-legged dinosaur
oh, it's a fetus.
The levels were bland, the subway level fucking sucked. The game takes forever to even get to Silent Hill, and when it does, it’s just hallways, felt incredibly linear. The bosses were useless, the characters forgettable, and Heather got on my nerves more than once like an edgy teen lead. But not hot. Yeah, SIlent Hill 4s got problems. But I liked it way more. The apartment stuff was actually scary. First it feels weird, then familiar, then terrifying when the ghosts come. Especially if you take the doll. The ghosts are annoying, but they work. They fuck with you and never let you relax. Thought the story was better to with more interesting characters that 'mattered'. You weren’t the chosen one. You were just stuck in someone else’s nightmare. That is what made it scary. Not your trauma. Someone else’s trauma taking over your life. That hit harder for me.
char limit reached, my post probably sounds like shit now. sorry
