I read some of those posts about Goku and journey to the west a few threads ago and those posters didn't really understand a lot of his inspirations. Toriyama tried to make an amoral parody of tezuka's works. He wanted those ideas without being preachy. That's also why there's also such a focus on robots and aliens, time travel, and biotech. And claiming he didn't understand journey to the west and the monkey king is odd. He literally made Vegeta the co star to reflect all of the monkey king's more negative attributes.
