>Your ancestors were immigrants
No, my ancestors were the original settlers who actually created this country from the untamed wilderness.
My 13th great grandfather was the Baron De La Warr who was the largest investor in the Virginia Company of London which had the charter to colonize the east coast of the now United States and established the colony at Jamestown in 1607.
I am a direct descendant of many of the passengers in the first fleets to arrive.
>who refused to assimilate
Assimilate to what? There was nothing there.
>killed off the native population
No, the vast majority of the native population had already died off due to diseases that rapidly through their population after making first contact with the Spanish. But the time anyone actually started setting up successful settlements, most of the injuns were long gone.
Occasionally my ancestors had to kill some of the natives out of self-defense or as reprisal for the surprise attacks and raids and massacres carried out by certain tribes. My ancestors relied on trade with the natives and had no interest in or need to kill them off.
