What, are you learning a new language just to brag that you can?
If you weren’t allowed to tell anyone else that you knew Japanese would you still bother learning it?
If you have no desire to learn other than “streams” or VNs then no, I doubt you could spend the thousands of hours required to learn Japanese.
Your question alone is disparaging to those in this thread who have spent that time and effort.

I would hate for this post to be the crux in your life which decides whether you choose to learn Japanese or not, but it’s not something decided on a whim.
Actually, now that I think about it, I started learning for similar reasons. For untranslated (trannylated) games and such.
