The Triassic Kraken theory is something made because back in the day giant Triassic ichtyhosaurs were thought to prey primarily on soft-bodied creatures, so a giant squid who served as prey for those whale-sized ichthyosaurs was proposed (in a half-serious way).
Now we know those ichthyosaurs were capable predators of other marine reptiles, so the theory doesn't seems that plausible nowadays.
