Makes me miserable reading everything we knew of Fontaine pre-4.0 compared to what it was. It’s a live service gacha game, it’s obvious early stuff will likely get revised and rewritten but in what world is what we got more interesting and engaging than a foggy, polluted industrial-gothic Victorian hellhole with an Archon sending assassins against her subjects and class divide. The Fontaine we got had that too but they hardly expanded on why half of the population was living in sewers. Belle Epoque isn’t far from a bad era and aesthetic to base something on at all but they executed it in the most boring way. Suppose Genshin just isn’t that kind of game and there’s a limit to how much they could’ve shown in a kids game anyway.
