HF is just the bitter truth of growing up and I think it's a pretty obvious maturity filter for the people who dislike the route.
Sakura and Shirou finally growing up and finding happiness and family in each other is kino. Both overpowered their damage. Sakura being Shirou's "true love" and HF being the "mature" path.
When dreams and reality crush, you should choose what's more important to you. You can't save everyone. This is literally the theme of the series, hammered into you from the very start. HF is where Shirou finally lets go of his obsession that was ruining him.
People often dismiss HF, but I think the progression is a natural consequence of both Shirou growing as a person and Nasu getting older. You should eventually get over your edgy teenager phase.
