The CRT shader obscures detail like a CRT did, and sprites were drawn with that in mind. Look at stuff like the skulls on the shelves, Guybrush's clothes, and the baskets to see where they feel a little more properly displayed due to the goofiness of CRTs.

That literally looks better than picrel (the 3D part, which is what I'm discussing. I already conceded that 2D backgrounds cause issues with scaling). Even with CRT hiding it, it's still obviously low resolution and a shimmery, jaggy mess. But to imply Cloud's model doesn't instantly look better with the benefit of a high resolution render is silly.
