But no. You were put on the spot, and had nothing to rely on but your reportedly poor sense of improv.
Why couldn't Ben be here to do this? He was so much better at talking to people he didn't know!
You opened your mouth to speak, and not even you knew what was going to come flying out of it. All you knew was that these people were all counting on you. The whole world might be counting on you…
“Hi. I know you're all scared, and confused, and probably more than a little angry about your city getting invaded by zombies.” you began, still feeling a little embarrassed about all this.
There were murmurs of agreement echoing throughout the crowd.
“But I know the one who’s really responsible for all this.” you continued.
There were multiple gasps of surprise and outrage.
“I mean…I don't know him personally, but I know where we can find him.” you went on.
“How do you know all this?” a bat creature called out, narrowing his eyes in scrutiny.
You turned to face him.
“The Nosferatu Twins told me. He's an ancient vampire lord that goes by the name ‘Varnae’.”
There were even more murmurs now. Good. You were starting to pick up steam now.
“He's been deceiving all of you with these fake prophecies. He's been using his minion Skul to build an army. And he nearly took out the entire Monster Council a few hours ago!”
Your audience was growing increasingly rowdy with each and every revelation. By yourself, you would have been hard pressed to convince them of even one of these things, but with Grandma Young literally backing you up, they would have no choice but to seriously consider the things you were saying.
“And if I were you guys, I'd be seriously pissed about it!”
You got a raucous agreement from the crowd, and you felt Young giving your shoulders an encouraging squeeze.
You reached out a hand, and pointed out three people who you recognized from your time flying above the city.
Goat Boy, despite having his eyes closed, calmly stepped forward as soon as you pointed at him.
Further in the back, another man reluctantly stepped forward. He was trying to blend in with the wall, but was now unable to after you pointed him out to everyone. He appeared to be a Were-rat with beady red eyes and brown fur. He wore hempen pants that were being held up by his tail, a short beige hooded cloak with little holes cut out for his ears, and an old rifle that he'd slung over his shoulder.
And lastly, the Salamander girl wearing the green cloak, who stood at a remarkable seven feet and two inches, stepped forward to meet your eyes. No one had dared get in her way. Like all Salamanders, her skin radiated an intense heat due to the furnace of everburning flame that served as their body's metabolic function. She had the appearance of a bipedal reptile with spindly limbs, a thick, serpentine torso, and a pair of glowing yellow eyes.
